Family and Youth Club Play: Parent Volunteer Wanted!

The Almonte Tennis Club is looking at ways to engage our member families with younger players and to encourage more youth from the community to join the Club. So far our efforts have had a moderate response.

We need your help.  We are looking for a Parent volunteer who would like to plan and organize a Club Play event(s) for Families and Youth.

If you are interested in promoting youth play and tennis programming please email lizrootham@bell.net and rabramenko@gmail.com.

In the meantime, families and youth are encouraged to continue coming out to the Courts especially Sundays 6:30-8:00pm.  Given recent turnout the Courts will not be reserved specially for Families and Youth so Rule#5 on wait times will apply. If participation increases the Club will reinstate scheduled Club Play for Families and Youth.

Hyacinth Chatterton Memorial Round Robin Results

WHAT A GREAT DAY!

The Round Robin Event on Saturday July 16th was a great success. Participants all enjoyed the “competitive” play and shared many heartfelt memories of Hyacinth. Everyone played 5 rounds of 4 games with varying partners and opponents. In the end there was a 3-way tie for first place.

Congratulations to Paul Scissions, Karin Crawford and Rick Skinner who each scored 13 of a possible 16 points, and had first dibs on the array of prizes offered for all participants.

Thanks to all the folks who participated in recognizing the contribution Hyacinth made to the Almonte Tennis Club over many decades. Special thanks to our Program Coordinator, Rob Abramenko, and especially to member volunteers, Janet Morrison and Rhonda Meloche for their work planning and coordinating the day.

A bit about Hyacinth Chatterton

Hyacinth was a dedicated and long standing member of the Almonte Tennis Club and its Executive Committee. Her enthusiasm for playing, teaching, and promoting tennis over many decades has influenced the growth and popularity of our Club.

Hyacinth was a Program Coordinator extraordinaire, who over many many years provided tennis instruction, organized ladders, and promoted intra-club play. Most of us directly benefitted from her background, as a Tennis Pro and cheerful coaching. She was instrumental to the development of youth tennis in the community by promoting the sport throughout her professional career, as a teacher at St. Mary.

Hyacinth passed away last year. At the time, the ATC made a donation to cancer research in her name. However, the Club was unable to properly acknowledge her tremendous contributions to tennis within the community, due to public health restrictions.

This year, we are offering Members the opportunity to recognize her contribution through the participation in the free Round Robin Event. Please join in.

See you July 16th.

Did you know (#2)?

The Ontario Tennis Association (OTA)

  • The Almonte Tennis Club (ATC) is a registered member of the OTA and pays annual dues to the OTA based on the number of club members.
  • OTA dues and Insurance amount to about 1/3 of the ATC’s annual operating budget.
  • In return, the Club receives support and services that help the Executive effectively govern the Club; manage and maintain the Courts, and develop tennis programming.
  •  Among the OTA services offered, the ATC is able to access insurance coverage that protects our members and the Executive Committee.
  • The Club can also access a wide range of policies and programs from options for court resurfacing to guidelines for hiring tennis instructors.
  • The ATC is also able to connect with other local tennis clubs through the OTA.
  • Membership allows the ATC to hold two OTA sponsored doubles clinics per season. For registration of the next available clinic held on August 27, 2022 email Robert at rabramenko@gmail.com.

Note: the ATC promotes and encourages tennis according to the ‘OTA Rules of Tennis’. This can be seen on our new signage at the courts, which includes ‘Almonte Tennis Club Rules’, the OTA ‘Tennis Etiquette’ and ‘Simplified Rules of Tennis’.
